What is a typical recording session like at Cross-eyed Studio?
Recording your music will begin with tracking your rhythm instruments such as drum, bass, and guitars. Each musician gets their own tailored mix in their headphones. This phase is done in a single, continuous take for each song until you are satisfied with the foundation. The next phase of recording is overdubbing, where vocals and additional instruments are recorded as you listen back to the rhythm tracks. When all tracking is complete, mixing can begin. During the mixing phase, mistakes made during tracking can be corrected as needed through the convenience of non-linear timeline editing. All recorded tracks are then carefully optimized by adding automated effects and level and panning adjustments until the song sounds balanced from start to finish. At this point, additional post-production can be done to further polish the recording prior to mastering. Finally, the songs are mastered by giving them all the same basic volume level and sonic quality (if only it were that simple!). Fade outs, crossfades, and cue times are specified before burning your final master CD.
